Oday Maleh
I’m Oday Maleh. I run Saltserv from Amsterdam, a one-person studio that ships native apps for iOS, Android and macOS.
I’ve been writing software professionally for a long time, most of it mobile, a good part of it for other people. Saltserv is where I build the things I wanted to exist: a real SSH client for a phone, a voice recorder that never uploads anything, a package tracker that doesn’t ask for your inbox, a fiqh reader that quotes its sources verbatim.
Alongside the apps I build for other companies: the Android apps for Roadie Tuner, Seez, PowerGoodies and Bubu AI, and Dynet, a fibre-installation planning platform on Node.js, MongoDB and React — all under Work. I’m available for contract work.
What I’ve shipped
Every app below is built end to end by me — design, code, localisation, store listing, submission, support. Each one has a product page and a post about why it exists.
- Cura — SSH client, terminal and Linux server monitor for iOS and Android. Stats over plain SSH, no agent on the box.
- Ismi — Islamic and Arabic baby names with a cited source for every meaning; 565 names carry a verified Quran chapter and verse.
- Mantra — your own affirmations on your Android lock screen, on a fresh illustrated background every morning.
- QuestLog — a game backlog tracker for Android with a roulette wheel for picking what to play next.
- Underway — a package tracker for iPhone that follows 900+ carriers and never reads your email.
- Textrix — paraphrase, summarise, proofread and OCR on iPhone with private on-device AI.
- Booksum — a reading journal: scan a page, keep the quote, get an on-device summary.
- Marjai — the complete rulings of Sayyid Sistani, verbatim, offline, with diacritic-tolerant Arabic search.
- Ward — a porn and website blocker that filters on the device, with a waiting time before anything can be turned off. In store review.
- ADB Remote — a macOS GUI for ADB, logcat and Gradle, for the tasks that don’t deserve an IDE launch.
- Murmur — voice notes on iPhone, transcribed and organised entirely on-device with Whisper and a small local LLM.
- Ouen — a fan-sign maker for concerts with a savings jar, merch and photocard collection and a ticket-deadline tracker, for people who support an oshi. No ads, no account.
How I think about software
- Native first. Swift on iOS, Kotlin on Android. Kotlin Multiplatform when the product is mostly data and UI and sharing code is a real win — and I’ll say when it isn’t.
- Offline and private by default. If a feature can run on the device, it runs on the device. Nothing on this site phones home, and neither do the apps.
- No dark patterns. No weekly subscriptions dressed up as trials, no ads in the flow, no “delete your account by emailing support”. A one-time purchase where a one-time purchase will do.
- Measure, don’t guess. Store keyword rankings, search impressions, install curves — I keep the numbers and I write about what they said, including when they said I was wrong.
